The alchemy of glazing

When?
September 25 @ 17:30 - 19:30

These fabulous colour transitions are doable for anyone. Pictured are works from previous workshops!

Lasting 2.5 hours, the class will have a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical introduction you will learn: what glazes are, what they consist of, when and why they were invented and what they do and don't do. Then you'll get down to practice - you'll use liquid glazes for high-temperature firing from American brands (mainly Amaco, but also Mayco and Spectrum). These allow you to achieve the effect of smoothly transitioning into each other, flowing colours that are the object of desire for adepts in the art of glazing.

You will glaze with a brush, but sometimes also with a spoon. You will learn tricks to achieve certain effects, such as the peacock eye or flowing drops. There will be talk about how to avoid the most common mistakes, how to correct them and, above all, how to glaze to achieve flowing effects, but so that the glaze does not run off onto the kiln shelves.

You can glaze your own work if it is made of clay, which can be fired at 1220-1240 degrees Celsius. You should bring 2-3 small objects. If you do not have your own work, bisque will be provided.

The workshop is suitable for both experienced and beginners. The cost of the class includes all materials and firing. Artwork will be available for collection in approximately two weeks.
